Chris Wallis working for ASOCIANA, the Anglican social action ministry in Northern Argentina, has urged us to pray once more about the issue of deforestation of the Chaco region. The Province of Salta has just approved a law which practically gives carte blanche for the remainder of the Chaco area of the province to be converted into a ’soya desert and cattle-grazing area’. An appeal has been made to the Supreme Court of Argentina by representatives of Indian communities and small farmers asking the Court to order an immediate cessation to the deforestation, together with further requests including compensation. Please pray about this and for the role of ASOCIANA.
Bishop Abelino & Paty Apeleo have written from Santiago, asking us to pray for them as they adjust to life in the Chilean capital after a lifetime in the south of the country. Bishop Abelino is pastoring the Church of the Saviour, a small congregation in a working class area with many financially needy and unemployed people. Please pray for the Apeleos and for this ministry.
Andy Roberts writes that ‘My Father’s House’ project for vulnerable boys in Olinda, Brazil, should close over the holiday to let the boys spend time with family and give the workers a break. But some don’t have suitable family to go to, so some boys and workers will probably have to stay at the project. Pray for Andy, the rest of the staff and boys over this period, and also for the boys who are able to go to family. Take a few moments to read Andy’s report on ‘A Street Boy’s Christmas’, then pray.
Finally, please remember all SAMS mission and Latin partners over the Christmas period. Many will be very active in churches, tired after a busy year and also looking forward to summer holidays. Pray they and their families in the UK/Ireland and abroad will know the peace and joy of the message of the Incarnation and be encouraged in Christ.
Thank you for your prayers throughout this year. A very happy Christmas to you from all at SAMS.
