Gonzalo and Leticia Soria

Gonzalo and Leticia SoriaGONZALO SORIA was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1970. He spent his youth in Sayago, in a working class neighbourhood with many factories by the station that no longer exists.

At 23 he committed his life to Christ through the Anglican church. Soon he felt God calling him to follow in a closer and deeper way, so he went to seminary where he was shown the next step … he married Leticia Gómez. They now have two daughters, Abril and Guillermina.

Gonzalo is now ordained serving in the Diocese of Uruguay. He has oversight of the parish of the Holy Spirit in the neighbourhood of Malvín within the capital, Montevideo. This is a growing parish and Gonzalo’s approach is to open it up to the community. Before he took on this responsibility in 2004, Gonzalo served a parish with a famous name – Fray Bentos. He still has oversight, travelling the 200 miles there by bus each week to encourage this young and committed congregation in pastoral care, Bible study, women’s work, youth work and social outreach. A chaplaincy church had existed there from 1866 to 1917 serving the English and German employees of the Liebigs Beef Extract Company, which produced the famous corned beef. That ministry ceased when the factory closed. The church reopened in 2001 with the aim of developing a Spanish speaking ministry.
Pray for Gonzalo and his family as they serve in Uruguay.
