Psalm 47:1-2 v1 Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. v2 For the Lord Most High is awesome, the great King over all the earth.
Psalm 47 opens with a call to worship: “Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy.” This isn’t shallow excitement, but the glad response of hearts awakened to the majesty of God. Praise rises not from circumstance, but from who God is. Verse 2 gives the reason: “For the Lord Most High is awesome, the great King over all the earth.” True worship is always rooted in God’s sovereign rule. There is deep comfort here. The One who reigns over all the earth is neither distant nor indifferent. He is the covenant Lord, faithful to His people, ruling with wisdom, holiness, and grace.
In an unsettled and unstable world, Psalm 47 reminds us that the throne of heaven isn’t vacant. God hasn’t yielded His authority. And notice, the psalm summons “all nations.” The King of Israel is the King of all peoples. This lifts our eyes to Christ, the ascended King, before whom every knee will bow. In Him, the reign of God is not a terror to His people, but their joy, refuge, and security. So rejoice today with hearts resting in the greatness of God.
