Deliver me from my enemies, O God; be my fortress against those who are attacking me. v2 Deliver me from evildoers and save me from those who are after my blood.
David prays these words while surrounded by danger, as Saul’s men watched his house, waiting to kill him. He’s not writing from comfort but from the pressure of real fear. Yet instead of devising revenge or surrendering to despair, he lifts his eyes to God. The repeated cry, “Deliver me,” reveals both his helplessness and his confidence. He knows that only the Lord can be his fortress. This psalm ultimately points us to Christ.
Jesus, the truly righteous King, was pursued by evil men, falsely accused, and delivered into the hands of His enemies.
Yet through His suffering and resurrection, He secured the eternal deliverance of all who trust Him. Because Christ endured the assault of sin, death, and Satan, believers now find an unshakable refuge in Him. We may not face armed enemies outside our doors, but we know the threats of temptation, accusation, anxiety, and spiritual opposition. Our instinct is often to trust our own strength or to become consumed by fear.
The safest place isn’t where the storm can’t reach us, but where the Lord Himself is our strong tower. Today, whatever presses against you, make this your prayer: “Lord, You are my fortress.
Deliver me, not merely from my circumstances, but from unbelief, fear, and every enemy that would draw my heart away from You.” In Christ, your refuge is secure, and His faithful protection never fails. SAMS Ireland.
