Psalm 62: 1&2 Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I shall never be shaken.
Psalm 62 was written during a time of opposition and uncertainty in David’s life. Surrounded by enemies and tempted to fear, David deliberately turns his attention away from his circumstances and fixes his eyes on God. The repeated word “truly” emphasises that God is the only reliable source of rest, salvation, and security. While everything around him seems unstable, David’s confidence rests in the unchanging character of God. These verses point us beyond David to Jesus Christ, the One in whom God’s promises are fully realised. True rest isn’t found in the absence of trouble but in the presence of the Lord. Our confidence is grounded not in our ability to hold on to Christ but in His faithful grip on us. Christ alone is our Rock, our salvation, and our fortress. When life feels uncertain, our hearts naturally seek security in success, relationships, or our own strength. Yet none of these can provide lasting peace. God alone is our safe refuge. Though our circumstances may not change immediately, trusting in Christ changes us. Because our hope is anchored in Him, we can endure every trial with quiet confidence, assured that He will never abandon those who belong to Him.
