Ordination of Pastor Guillermo Diana

We rejoice with St. Paul’s Church in Concepcion, Paraguay, as they recently celebrated a significant milestone. After nine years of fervent prayer, the church’s longing for a new Pastor was answered. On June 4th, Guillermo Diana was officially installed as their new Pastor.

Guillermo’s journey to ministry has been deeply intertwined with St. Paul’s Church. Although he grew up in the nearby community of San Juan, it was within the walls of St. Paul’s that he found his faith and spiritual home. From an early age, Guillermo has carried a burning passion for sharing the gospel. His heartfelt desire is to witness people coming to know Jesus Christ as their Saviour and to witness the church thriving both in numbers and in the depth of their faith and service.

Guillermo is married to Rosa, and they are blessed with six children and two grandchildren. As they embark on this new chapter of leadership, we ask for your prayers of thanksgiving for Guillermo and Rosa. May the Lord anoint, protect, equip, and encourage them in their ministry. Pray that they will be granted wisdom, assistance, hope, faith, and love as they lead God’s people.

Furthermore, we ask for prayers of intercession for the church as a whole. May the light of Christ shine ever brighter through their collective witness. Pray that the church will continue to grow in strength, unity, and the transformative power of the gospel.

Together, let us lift up our voices in prayer, expressing gratitude for the past and seeking God’s guidance and blessings for the future.

Beryl Baker update

Dear Everyone,

I had a lovely call from Beryl this afternoon.

Beryl was in Asunción and she had spent the morning making sure everyone had her new phone number. She was speaking to me on Whatsapp so no charge to Beryl.

Her vehicle was now starting properly and she had driven down to the capital for five days. Her problem at her Asuncion house was the large sliding gate on her garden behind which she keeps the car safely. The gate had come off its runners and only with Beryl’s help had Jorvy her caretaker who looks after the house in her absence , had not had the gate fall on him . Beryl had managed to get the gate secured and her friend Sylvia was going to organise a team of people to try and get the gate open again and secure the gate securely on its mounting.

Rhett is hoping to visit the ranch again and in the meantime most of the workers and their families will stay on the ranch . Like here in the UK the infection rate has gone up and there have been more deaths.

Beryl at Rhett’s request is getting the supplies for the workers and their families but she does get help from the workers and the staff at the shops to unload the supplies.

The schools are all closed and even in Asunción the churches are closed and Beryl can see the services on the internet. The biggest problem is no post getting through from the UK and although she can get money from the ATM in Asunción she cannot access her bank account on the internet and check the balances on her account.

Many of the medical suppliers are closed but Beryl is continuing to see her patients. The church Indians are staying in their villages and there are less infections because everyone is being more careful with their personal hygiene. Tim Curtis is now back at his home in Rio Verde but the drought is still causing a water shortage and bottled water is being bought for all drinking water purposes.

Beryl can hold services and Bible studies for the women on her veranda.

Please pray for an end to the drought.

Pray for the people in Asunción who have a curfew every night from 8 pm till 5am the next morning. Pray for all the children unable to go school.

Pray for Beryl herself that she will remain in good health and she will continue to get her medical supplies.

Pray for the continued supply of good internet connections to enable her to keep in regular contact with her friends and colleagues and with contacts in the U.K.

Latest News from Agnews at Regent – Summer 2020

When we sent out our last update in early January, who could have imagined what the next few months would hold!

From pandemics to protests to (for us) parenting, 2020 has been a whirlwind year. Please read to hear a bit more how we’ve been doing, and a few pics of our newest addition, Joel! He has brought joy to many in the midst of the pandemic, appearing on Zoom classes at Regent and bringing a smile to visitors. We hope his little smile brings joy to you too.

This has not been an easy season for so many round the world, especially in Peru. Please keep the people of Peru in your prayers. We think of our friends Anna, Paul and Sarah and the kids, Pat and the Shalom centre, Pastor Juan Carlos and Penny, Jorge Zamudio and the Cathedral crew, and Santiago (also a new father!), Melany, Karla and all the youth from Jesus el Nazareno and ask that you remember them in your prayers. In the meantime, we lament, we cry out “How long, Lord?” with the Psalmist in Psalm 13, and patiently await until hope returns, and praise is liberated on our lips again.

Lastly, if you know of anyone needing somewhere to live in Lisburn for anything from 4-9 months beginning in Sept/Oct, let us know, as our current tenants are moving out at the end of the August!

Blessings,

Chris & Hannah
